Ronald Grant Messenger

Ronald Grant Messenger, 86 years , of
Riverview passed away at The Moncton Hospital on Tuesday, September 4,
2012. Born in Middleton, NS., Ron was the only child of Ronald Grant
Sr. and Reta Pearl (Marshall) Messenger. Ron's early years were spent
on the family farm on the Messenger Road in Central Clarence, NS. He
attended the Central Clarence country school and completed his High
School at Bridgetown, NS. He then went on to Dalhousie University
where he received a Diploma in Engineering and a Bachelor of Science
Degree. He furthered his education at Nova Scotia Technical College
where he received a Bachelor of Civil Engineering Degree with Honours.
While at Nova Scotia Technical College he played varsity basketball
and volleyball and was awarded an athletic gold T for his
play. In 1954 he joined the firm of Canadian National
Railways in Halifax as Jr. Asst. Engineer in the Engineering Dept. In
his 35 years with the CNR he served as a senior officer in 8 provinces
and at all levels in the organization. His last position was as
Corporate Vice-President at CNR Headquarters in Montreal, Que. Ron was
always interested in the communities his family lived in as evidenced
by his community activities as follows: Board Director Greater Moncton
United Way; Board Director and Chair of the Greater Moncton YMCA;
Board Director and Chair of the Community Foundation of Greater
Moncton; President of the Southeastern Branch of the New Brunswick
Genealogical Society; President of the Gyro Club of Moncton; President
of the Fundy Stamp Collectors Club of Moncton; Member of the Rotary
Club of Moncton; Member of the Probus Club of Moncton; Member of the
Friendship Club of Moncton; Member of the Moncton Golf and Country
Club.
He is survived by his wife of 50 years Marion Laurel
(Smith) Messenger and son Robert Bruce and daughter-in-law Andrea Jean
Raper of Ottawa.
By request of the family there will be no
visitation. A private graveside service will be held.
