Barry David Ripley of Riverview passed away at The Moncton
Hospital on Friday, May 13, 2022 at the age of 75
years.
Born in Moncton he was the son of the late Dr. Howard and
Edna (Bowden) Ripley. Barry received his degree in Electrical
Engineering at the University of New Brunswick and after years of
working in Saint John for NB Tel he started his own business Martek
where he continued to work for many years prior to his
retirement.
Barry was a Karate instructor, good friend and
mentor with the Riverview East Karate Club. Barry began Karate
training in 1966 while in University and was on the university
gymnastics team. He continued his training in Saint John then moved to
Moncton in 1974 and was credited for starting Shotokan Karate in NB
while teaching in Truro, Sackville and Fredericton. He attained his
Black Belt in 1977. Many of Barry's students have gone on to win
awards and become 4th, 5th, 6th, 7th ranked
dans.
He is survived by his common law wife, Janice
Caseley Bannister; her sons, Cory (Casey) Bannister of
Barry, ON, Scott Bannister (Melissa) of Moncton and his children,
Hannah, Mackenzie and Alexandria; niece, Sara Kugelmass of
California.
In addition to his parents he was predeceased by
his sister, Lydia Kugelmass; brother, Murray Ripley.
A celebration of life will be held on Tuesday, May
24, 2022 between the hours of 6:00pm - 8:00pm at Tuttle Brothers
& Riverview Funeral Home.
Interment will be in Fairhaven Memorial Gardens at
a later date.
Donations in Barry's memory made to the Canadian Cancer Society, Carma Cat Rescue or to St. Paul's United Church would
be appreciated by the family.
